Technical zinc houses used zinc
The new Aeroscopia museum in Toulouse, an elegantly curved building, is covered with a warm roof in dark grey zinc. Although the Cardete et Huet studio chose ANTHRA-ZINC because they wanted to create a subtle, contrasting dialogue with the stainless steel cladding of the plant doors opposite the museum, behind which the A380 is assembled, the technical zinc used also solved the more basic constraints of improving the performance of the warm roofing complex.

Zinc, in this case preweathered ANTHRA-ZINC, offers the benefit of a matte surface, which eliminates the reflections created by lacquered metal roofs, not very popular for airports because of the risk of glare for pilots.
The tried and tested standing seam technique in parallel edge strips or trapezoidal strips makes it possible to work easily on complex forms such as this double curved toric roof. Installed on a warm roof, standing seam is highly efficient and is more cost-effective than industrial aluminium solutions.
Discrete junction between cold and warm roof systems.
On steep slopes, intermediary welts minimise the length of prefabricated zinc elements, making them easier to handle. These overlaps, harmoniously positioned in stone beds, make it possible to distribute zinc expansion more evenly.
The key element of the VMZ Structural roof system is this patented fixing clip called “single-screw”, which is based on a stainless steel top plate inserted into the insulation. Easy to install on the protruding part of the profiled zinc sheets prior to crimping, it enables the sheet to expand freely.
Because it is extremely compact, structural roofing, which is included in the non-ventilated warm roof category, makes it possible to reduce the quantity of materials used in the substructure (*) and thereby the overall weight of the roofing, and significantly reduces the thickness of the roofing complex, enhancing the slim roof edges.
